Marcel Wijnen (Leiden, 1962)

Exploring my site you’ll notice that, beside my own compositions, I put quite some time and effort into copying artists from earlier days. The main reason for doing so lies in my desire to carry on in a tradition that used to be very common in those days. Artists not only learned from each other by copying each other, they also paid tribute to one another in this way.
I draw inspiration from more than 6 centuries of fine arts, drawings, paintings, etchings.. In my view these works of art are of great help when trying to attain mastery yourself.
Of course own compositions are and always will be my main objective.

My materials are traditional. My paints are tempered by myself, the panels I prepared with chalk- and oilgrounds.
